the second rebbe of Slonim; grandson of the Yesod ha-avoda
The grandson of Rabbi Avraham of Slonim, author of the Yesod ha-avoda. His father, Rabbi Michel Aharon, died in the grandfather’s lifetime, and in 1884 the court was taken by him.
Lithuanian Chasidut. Slonim stood in the midst of the Lithuanian, yeshiva world, and the Slonim chasidim learned Torah with Lithuanian thoroughness; the rebbe demanded it himself. The teaching of the Slonim court is labour and service, without wonders.
Tiberias. The grandfather had already sent chasidim to Eretz Yisrael; under Rabbi Shmuel the Slonim community of Tiberias grew strong enough that after the Shoah the court was rebuilt from there.
He died in 1916, during the First World War.
