The Tzemach David—Rabbi David Shapira of Dinov רבי דוד שפירא מדינוב — צמח דוד
the second rebbe of Dinov; author of the Tzemach David
Son of Rabbi Tzvi Elimelech Shapira, the Bnei Yissaschar. After his father's death in 1841 he took both the rabbinate of Dinov and the court, and held them to the end of his life.
The Tzemach David is his commentary on the Torah; his grandson Rabbi Menachem Mendel Rokeach published it in Przemysl in 1879. It shares its name with the Prague chronicle of Rabbi David Gans, published in 1592, and is a different work.
He died on 19 Adar 1874. His eldest son Rabbi Yeshayahu Naftali Hertz took the court. Rabbi David's own brother, Rabbi Elazar of Lancut, became the grandfather of the Munkacs house.
