Rabbi Judah al-Harizi רבי יהודה בן שלמה אלחריזי

He was at Toledo in 1204 and at Jerusalem in 1218; his life was a road: southern France, Alexandria, Jerusalem, Damascus, Aleppo, where he died.

His rendering of the Guide is lighter and more literary than Shmuel ibn Tibbon's, and Ibn Tibbon's is the more exact; the argument over which is better has run for eight centuries. As an eyewitness he reports that after Jerusalem returned to Muslim hands the Jews were again permitted to settle there—a first-hand testimony to a turn otherwise poorly known.
