the sixth rebbe of Slonim; author of the Nesivos Shalom—one of the most widely read chasidic books of our time
Born in Slonim in 1911, he studied under the Beis Avraham; in 1935 he came to Eretz Yisrael; he married the daughter of Rabbi Avraham Weinberg, the future Birkas Avraham.
The yeshiva. He headed the Beis Avraham yeshiva in Jerusalem and published the talks of the earlier Slonim rebbes—what survived of Slonim was gathered and printed by his hands.
The Nesivos Shalom. His own books—on the weekly portions, on Shabbat, on the festivals, on the paths of service—went beyond Slonim: they are studied in yeshivot of every kind and read by people with no part in Chasidut. The reason is simple: he spoke of faith to a person who has doubts, and did not pretend they were not there.
Rebbe. In 1981, after his father-in-law’s death, he sat as rebbe; some of the chasidim then followed another descendant of the Weinberg family, and since then there are two Slonim courts. He died on 7 Av 5760 (2000).
